Brenner's initials "VDB" were restored in 1918, and his initials were placed inconspicuously beneath the shoulder of Lincoln on this obverse side. Lettering: IN GOD WE TRUST LIBERTY 1909-1958 P-D-S VDB Engraver: Victor David Brenner Reverse Two wheat ears surrounding lettering. On some of the 1909 issues, Brenner's initials appear on the bottom of the reverse side. They were removed that year, thus creating two varieties for each of the two mints in 1909.
